Maryan Mulholland Stevens of Arlington, Virginia, passed away in the early morning of August 7, 2015, as a result of complications following hip surgery. She is survived by her husband, retired Justice John Paul Stevens, her five children: Catherine Silver of Riverwood, Illinois, Jerome Simon, of Crystal Lake, Illinois, Terrence Simon, of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Daniel Simon, of Chicago, Illinois, and Caralyn Ross, of San Diego, California; three step-children: Kathryn Jedlicka of Downers Grove, Illinois, Elizabeth Jane Sesemann, of Clarendon Hills, Illinois, and Susan Mullen, of Arlington, Virginia; eight grandchildren, nine step-grandchildren, and thirteen step-great grandchildren.
Maryan was born in Chicago on June 21, 1931. Her parents, Clem B. and Marion Mulholland were originally from Fort Dodge, Iowa. Maryan worked as a dietician, having graduated from St. Mary’s College in Notre Dame, Indiana. She and Justice Stevens were married in Leesburg, Virginia, on December 1, 1979.
A private interment service will be held at Arlington National Cemetery.
