The Supreme Court of the United States will honor the memory of the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg on Friday, March 17, with a meeting of the Supreme Court’s Bar, followed by a special sitting of the Court.
The Bar meeting – at 1:45 p.m. in the Upper Great Hall – will feature remarks by the Honorable Elizabeth B. Prelogar, Solicitor General of the United States; the Honorable John Owens, Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit; the Honorable Paul Watford, Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit; the Honorable Rachel Wainer Apter, Associate Justice of the New Jersey Supreme Court; Professor Amanda L. Tyler, Shannon C. Turner Professor of Law at the University of California, Berkeley School of Law; and Professor Hajin Kim, Assistant Professor of Law at the University of Chicago Law School. Judge Owens will serve as chair of the meeting. At the meeting’s conclusion, Bar members are expected to adopt a commemorative resolution.
Solicitor General Prelogar, Judge Owens, Judge Watford, Justice Wainer Apter, Professor Tyler, and Professor Kim all clerked for Justice Ginsburg. The Bar meeting will be streamed live on the Court’s website, www.supremecourt.gov.
A Special Session of the Court will be held in the Courtroom at 3 p.m. Solicitor General Prelogar and the Honorable Merrick B. Garland, Attorney General of the United States, will address the Court. Chief Justice John G. Roberts, Jr., will respond on behalf of the Court. Attendance at the memorial sitting and meeting of the Bar is by invitation.
